DRACO PROJECT Key West, Florida - December 16th, 2002 DRACO LAUNCHED Multihull Technologies launched their newest custom catamaran yacht, "Draco", on December 6, 2002. Draco is the newest edition to the Constellation Yachts family of luxury multihulls designed and built by Walter Schurtenberger. The massive 65' Draco features twin 1,400 HP Caterpillar 3412 diesel engines powering Hamilton Jet drives and cruises at 30 knots.
Draco is
built entirely from epoxy resin composites in the Multihull Technologies
facility where it has occupied the large center bay during All Constellation Yachts are custom designs tailored to the unique desires of clients. Each one is an exercise in state-of-the-art composites construction where strength-to-weight ratios are maximized and materials life span is key. "We do not use any polyester composites because no matter how beautiful you make something from that material it will not perform or last like epoxy, so we cater to a more informed client base that knows the difference", says Walter Schurtenberger, President of Multihull Technologies and designer of Draco. Draco features include accommodations for six between a massive master suite and two well-appointed guest cabins, push button hydraulic tender bay, state-of-the-art electronics, remote control docking systems, and a no-holds-barred bridge saloon. Even Draco's tender is a exercise in speed and luxury. Looking into Draco's engine rooms, the massive Caterpillar diesels coupled to the Hamilton Jet drives by giant drive shafts makes the viewer well aware that this machine is built to go fast for a very long time.
